Modest acts of leadership

I believe that this world would be a better place if more people acted as leaders. Leaders support personal values through actions, even if those acts are modest. A leader can stand up and take care of a problem without requiring that it be assigned to him or her. A leader simply cares that a value works.

Earlier this week, a man chatted with me at my gym.  He complimented me on my regular practice, and suggested that I should spend more time on weight training. “You’ll have great results, with the way you work.” He was just being friendly, and I know that he has a professional interest in changing his career to helping people with fitness.

I stop to find an act of leadership everyday, part of my awareness practice.  I hope to notice more acts of leadership, sometimes the leader takes a stand for a minor point. However, leadership can be established over small issues. Practiced long enough, even small acts create a foundation on which bigger challenges can be established.
