We are all contagious

Have you ever spent three hours working with a grumpy person? I bet that you were not a cheerful bluebird after hibernating with a bear! Our moods are influenced by other people. Choose your friends, colleagues, and bosses wisely!

You can catch a bad mood just as you can catch a cold. I like to think that this is true for positive moods as well - surround yourself by positive people, and feel yourself lifted.  Start with a smile, and see how much influence you have over a group.

Mood contagion has been studied scientifically. John Cacioppo, an expert on social neuroscience, has written about the process of social influence which can begin with people in proximity synchronizing body postures, mimicking vocal expressions, and converging into nearly identical emotional states. Perhaps you can intentionally direct your powerful, positive emotional energy to change the spirit and consciousness of those who spend time with you.

Can you give me an example of mood contagion in your life? I would love to hear your story.  Send me a note.
