Planning and improvising
Woody Allen wrote, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans.” As we step forward, we must dance and adapt to the complex world we discover. Planning is not a bad activity, especially as it prepares the mind for changes, however the career changer often must improvise. Life surprises all of us. Plans help us arrange the resources and consider the contingencies. As we move ahead, the effective career changer will abandon early plans as irrelevant. New factors must be factored into one’s momentum. A plan too carefully plotted can restrict one from making better choices. The horizon moves forward to meet the career changer, in the face of surprise; one must be ready to strike out in a new direction.
A career changer can preserve his or her intentions, even when plans are modified. If one intends to “launch a marketing business which achieves $3 million in sales,” the intention can follow the transitioner even as the plans are scrubbed. Intentions can endure. Intentions are like an arrow pointing in a direction.
Do you have an intention for a brilliant career change? I am interested in your vision. Tell me about it.

I enjoyed the Woody Allen quote.
