Change your metaphor
As you change your career, is the word "work" still a good descriptor of your labor?
Change your metaphor. As you create something new with your life, think of it in glorious new terms. Let that metaphor change guide you as you make new decisions. You earn your right to claim your new career by seeing and serving in new ways. Work may be a limited metaphor, perhaps you should become a magus.
I am not seriously suggesting that you should wear a wizard’s robes, carry potions and concern yourself with defense against dark arts, in the style of Harry Potter. Consider, however, changing your personal metaphor to become a practitioner of magic. Move beyond work. Enjoy your craft, and look for the opportunity to transform the world around you. A magus is a person who has expanded knowledge and practice in the specialty area of work.

Certainly an interesting thougtht - reminds me of the book "The Magus" - by John Fowles. This seems like a useful method of affecting our self-concept.
