A small advantage can promote your passion
What are you good at? Do you have a skill which you are better at than others? Even if your strength area is just a small advantage, when applied over time, this performance edge can dramatically set you apart. Learn your career strengths, and put them to work whenever you can.
I'm very good at understanding and explaining statistics. While most people in psychology and other behavioral fields are required to study statistics, most dread this technical subject. While in college, I was able to help others prepare assignments and pass tests. I was hired to edit a statistics textbook. My strength in this area gave me a measureable edge that helped me into several years of graduate study.
Get passionate. If you work in your skill area, it is easy to be appreciated. Let your passion show. If you do this regularly, you can create a virtuous circle, amplifying the impact of your passion. When you work in your strength area, people will notice you. Passionate people make work a better place.
