Imagine goals that inspire
My car is powerful and reliable. I count on it to take me to work, to my gym, to the store, and home when I am done. I don't have to think about it too much - mainly I just fill up the gas and change the oil. My vehicle works!
Goals are also powerful and reliable vehicles. They can take you places. Starting with a vision of where one wants to go, one prepares a realistic destination. Goals can inspire one to move forward.
What happens when my car runs out of gas? It doesn't go. Similarly, one can get stuck with a goal. If a goal isn't exciting, if it doesn't inspire, it may not take you places.
“People are not lazy. They simply have impotent goals / that is, goals that do not inspire them," said motivational speaker Anthony Robbins. He's right. If you choose a tepid goal, it may not take you anywhere - like a car without gas.
Select goals that thrill you. Can you go beyond the goal, and imagine yourself living the results? Do you feel an emotional charge?
When setting your career goals, make sure that you have a full tank. Get charged about the results. Feel the goodness coming to you, and get excited.

Love the analogy of goals as fuel. When we feel 'run down' about our work, it's most often because we are no longer focusing on good, well-defined goals. Tanks for putting it so clearly!

Steve I enjoyed the blog - I read a great model for goals that ties in nicely with what you are saying at

the whole website is worth a look. I also agree with you about coming from a place of vision - goals seem to take care of themselves when you know what you want and what your passions and beliefs are.
