Are you facing any positive stress in your life?

If your world feels stressful, I guess that you have a lot of change in your life.  Stress follows change. When life conditions are not changing – a rare experience, I know! – stress is modest or absent. When change comes, we get used to a level of stress. When the change moves faster than we are used to, the stress may feel overwhelming.

Some stress tears at our hope. This stress leaves us feeling weaker, and resonates in the dark, dangerous moments when we feel alone. Other stress is just the friction that comes with the pace of change. Even when we have a promotion, make a big sale, or get invited to the Governor’s party, we may feel the psychic toll on our energy and equilibrium. Even the good experiences can leave us feeling weary.

We want to have those experiences, yet our body is drained from the anticipation and uncertainty. I call this experience “positive stress,” and it is felt by highly successful people. Change can be a friction on our life force. We feel the strain on our body, in our necks, our backs, in our feet, and the various nexus of our flowing qi.

Do you take time to recover from stress? I like to spend quiet time everyday in silent meditation, observing my inner states.  I find that 20 to 40 minutes is enough to calm my nervous system, and allow me to return to a state of gratitude. Meditation may not be your best method.  Whatever technique restores your strength and balance, make that connection regularly.
