Get unstuck with your boss

Have you had a discussion with your boss about your current and future leadership challenges?  If you feel that you are in a career rut, perhaps you should take the time to talk about your purpose. Many good people don’t work up to their potential. This working rut does not have to be a permanent condition. Why not take the initiative, and explain how you can do even more?

Plan the conversation. Consider these three factors. First, what energizes you in your work? Secondly, what are the unfilled leadership challenges in your workplace? Third, why are you the right person to fill the leadership void?

Begin the conversation with a positive approach. Remember that your boss is interested in how you can make him or her look good, and the results that you can bring to the organization. Your job is to show how you can deliver better results than you are currently getting. Expect good things to happen, and be patient. Ask your boss to join you in imagining a more effective place to work. Your appeal to service and leadership is bound to set the stage for positive changes, changes you have visualized!
