Possibilities in the moment

Possibilities in the moment
At 6:30 AM I think, “Can I sleep in for another ten minutes?” At 10:00, I hear the phone ring, and I cringe because I have too many things to do. At 3:00 PM, I look for ways to coast through the rest of the afternoon. At 5:30, I wonder if I need any groceries. At 8:00, I ask myself if I have completed all my home chores for the day. At each moment, we tend to follow predictable paths. Unless we consciously direct it, our mind tends to follow a pattern of actions that we have chosen before.
The mind is capable of producing new thought in many directions. We are all potentially artists, athletes, and healers. Yet, we treat our gift of thought as a machine with set assignments in front of it. Instead of realizing that our thoughts define our future, many of us begin the day following a familiar route. Without a challenge and a call to action, our minds may perform near a subsistence level.
It is a cliché of popular psychology to say that we are only using 5-10% of our brainpower. We have all heard this saying – yet have you ever seen the evidence for this measurement? Nevertheless, this popular idea reflects a life truth – most of us do not challenge our minds to think in new ways.
The Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hanh wrote, “We have more possibilities available in each moment than we realize.” Our life choices arise in our soul, and in our mind. Are you conscious of your own potential? Does your mind awaken to the opportunity for greatness?
Ask yourself new questions. “Where do I want to go? How can I get there from this moment?” Use your awareness to connect you to the resources and people that can help you realize your dream.
